I had so much fun taking late fall portraits in North Lawrence with Michelle and her boys. What darling kids! We had a blast exploring and finding cool spots for portraits.
I enjoyed doing a mini session with the Ashley Family. This is our 4th year working together and boy is it fun getting to see the kids grow up over the years! Enjoy this session in Broken Arrow Park in Lawrence.
On the day of the Great American Eclipse we had the honor of getting to see an amazing DIY show at the White Schoolhouse. Opening up the party, Lawrence's very own Ebony Tusks took the mic and moved throughout the audience, setting the stage for lots of crowd interaction in the stage-less room. Female fronted punk band, Warm Bodies from Kansas City went on 2nd. And Downtown Boys closed out the show with an energetic show filled with punk rock and politics. As lead singer Victoria Ruiz belted and screamed, the saxophone blared, and the crowd danced and shouted along. This was one of the most DIY punk shows I'd been to in years--a welcome option for late night entertainment. <3
Kate and Rodger were an absolute blast to work with. These two jumped the broom together in the courtyard of the Cider Gallery in the arts warehouse district of East Lawrence. We did portraits throughout Downtown Lawrence in some of my favorite spots, including the gorgeous ivy wall! These two gave me the freedom to create creative portraits against unique backdrops I'd never used before. Their reception was one of the most happy and fun parties I've been to. The night began with a dance off for the little kids and that got the party started just right-- enjoy all these fun photo moments ending with a beautiful sparkler exit! What a perfect day!
Mallory & Cindy's wedding was perfection. The two met as college roommates and finally tied the knot in 2017 at Kansas City's Californos in Westport. What a beautiful wedding day. The two shared heartfelt vows and Cindy's father's toast didn't leave a dry eye in the house. It is always an honor to be invited to document a same-sex wedding; it's one of the ways I continue to give back to our community by documenting lesbian experience. Though I started shooting same sex weddings and non-legal celebrations before they were federally sanctioned, it brings me so much happiness to have true marriage equality in this country. It was desperately needed and an important step towards building an American future of equality for all. Congratulations to these two as they continue to build a life together! <3 #lovewins
