Just wanted to share a few highlights from Melissa & Cecily's wedding photobooth. We used the garage's exposed wood as our backdrop. Wasn't it a lovely backdrop!? <3

I met Melissa years ago while a graduate student at the University of Kansas. I was so pleased to learn that she and Cecily would be getting married on a Fall day outdoors in a Kansas City backyard. Backyard weddings are some of my favorite weddings, they are so intimate and I love that the whole event will be in natural light, where my photography skills shine. Melissa & Cecily lucked out with a friend's backyard and her incredible crafting skills. This is DIY Pinterest Decorations Heaven. I enjoyed spending the evening with these two, who chose a low-key wedding with no giant wedding party or extra long portrait session. Their vows are some of the most heartfelt and inspiring I've ever heard. These photos are mostly candids and quickly posed formals, which is a style I love to work in. Much love to these two! Congratulations also on getting legally married in 2015! MARRIAGE EQUALITY FOR ALL! <3

Holly and Heather's wedding was so wonderful and fun! Enjoy these highlights from their reception photobooth! More pics to come!

I was so happy when I met Kendall and Nick during our pre-wedding consultation when I learned that they were going to have an outdoor South Park ceremony followed by a backyard reception in East Lawrence! They wanted all of their wedding party photos taken around downtown Lawrence and would give me ample time to enjoy hanging out with them and their crew as we drank and walked the streets of downtown. It was a gorgeous Fall day, and Kendall and Nick were game for all my photo ideas! They even let me talk them into taking them out to the Grinter Farms Sunflower Field for some iconic Kansas sunflower field photos. Much love to these two as they continue to build a life here in Lawrence! I had great fun working with these clients and an even better time editing all these wonderful portraits. Enjoy! <3

I'm not really a sports fan, so Super Bowl Sunday is nothing special over here in the Ruscin-Parrott household. However, news that Mates of State would be playing a FREE acoustic show at the brand new Lawrence Public Library was very exciting. The newness of the library was warmed by a digital fire projected on the new wooden walls of the library's auditorium. Seating was limited, and the show soon became standing room only. To connect with the audience, they bantered back and forth and with the audience, reminiscing about things they missed or remembered in Lawrence (their old practice space above a Mass Street store nobody in the room remembered and their love for The Replay, which brought cheers and a shout-out that a group of friends had just finished playing pinball there before coming to the show). Personally, I enjoyed the dark dark room and harsh lighting, while being hard to shoot in, because the perfect ambiance for mostly just sitting and enjoying the show, rather than documenting every second. Enjoy these party pics for lawrence.com and some "stage" pics, including a rare party pic moment to get a snapshot of the band after the show while they signed posters (design by Patrick Giroux, an Oh Snap client and also the designer of our logo and business cards! / printed by old friend from the Pirate House days, Leslie Kay Handmade).
