I felt so honored that Susan & Vivek chose me to photograph their interfaith, intercultural wedding. They both live in Pittsburgh, PA and had to trust the internet to find a local photographer here in Lawrence where the wedding would be hosted. I am so lucky they found me. When I met Susan and Vivek on one of their in-town visits, I immediately connected with them, and their story, and was eager to shoot their ceremony, which would begin with a Baraat, a groom's parading processional into the ceremony. Their ceremony was officiated by a Protestant minister and Hindu priest, his part was conducted in Sanskrit, a classic Hindu language. I was given the task of photographing all these rituals from the outsider perspective that I bring--this was my first Hindu wedding ever! So I felt like an anthropologist, taking photos of the various rituals and objects used to perform the rituals. After the ceremony, Susan and Vivek changed into traditional American white wedding dress and suit to enjoy their reception with guests. Both had friends travel in from all over the world to share in their celebration. I was so happy to be invited in to document this special day for them and their guests. The colors are like nothing I've ever gotten an opportunity to photograph and leaves me desiring a future Hindu wedding!
