I had such an amazing time working with Matt & Lauren for their engagement portrait session in downtown Lawrence, Kansas. Matt & Lauren wanted their engagement portraits to reflect the places in Lawrence in which they built their relationship, so we visit all of their favorite places. For this session, I basically went on a date with the two of them so that our photos looked natural and candid, rather than posed and forced. Matt is a filmmaker and was excited to let me show off my candid photography style. We started the evening off with coffee at La Prima Taza, followed by book browsing/buying at The Dusty Bookshelf, where Matt found a great book on film to buy for his collection. Then we were off to check out the exhibit at the Lawrence Arts Center and the kind people at Liberty Hall let us come in between movies to shoot in their theater. In between we strolled along Mass Street and visited South Park and the Japanese Friendship Garden. They indulged me with some photos at the new Lawrence Public Library, which I've been wanting to shoot at since it was constructed (next time I'll know to bring windex to clean the window first! ha!). Finally, we hit up Sylas and Maddy's for the quintessential Lawrence date night experience with homemade ice cream. In the end we got wonderful and authentic moments that show their companionship and love. I had such a wonderful time working with these two and can't wait to photograph their wedding next summer!
